Abstract: Challenges to historical time 4 Abstract By examining postmodern narratives with chief focus on the film Before the Rain, the present thesis aims to explicate the challenges posed to our conventional concept of historical time in this postmodern era. The analysis establishes postmodern temporality as a dimension of events that is no longer neutral and homogenous. The subsequent implications for our existing concepts of chronology, continuity, causality, finitude, moment, crisis of the subject, and ultimately, crisis of reality and truth are discussed in details. The discussion is concluded with a question on the determinism/hope paradox for future critics and politician. DOI: 10.5353/th_b2981371 Subjects: Time in motion pictures Postmodernism
